Hey, What are you listening to right now?

Hello, to everyone out there. This is my [Sean] first post on the site, and it’s a pleasure to have the opportunity to do so. Up until today/this afternoon, I’ve been entrenched in studying for finals. I’ve got three down, just one more to go. I’ve been up til 4 am multiple nights, going over the finer points of the English language and medieval literature. It’s been nuts to say the least.
I thought I’d share with you what’s been keeping me sane this past week and a half. No, it’s not adderall, it’s a copy of Beach House’s unreleased album, Teen Dream, and it’s pretty fudgeing sweet. I used to say that Beach House was one of those bands that I enjoyed listening to but felt in someways they were a “one trick pony.” All of their songs were in some way spooky and romantic at the same time, the production on the first album was generally the same for every track, and the song writing was catchy but not altogether mind blowing. That was just the facts of life. I still appreciated what they were doing nonetheless. In light of hearing this third album though, I must say the band has reached a new level of songwriting and musicianship. It’s so damn catchy and pop-sensible. Some of the “spookiness” is missing, but in it’s place is stronger, fuller sounding songs. I am altogether pleased.
For a band with a sound like Beach House’s, follow up albums can be difficult to navigate. With such a distinct sound, it’s hard to not hash out the same material as the debut while trying to maintain the sound that people like about your music. Teen Dream is everything I could have hoped for. A departure without leaving everything behind.
It should be addressed that though I illegally obtained an unreleased copy, I did pre-order the album on vinyl. So in someways my money has already gone to the album. Regardless, try not to steal music.
With that said, I love this album. Check out performances of the new songs on the youtuber.
